Testimonials

"Costa Rica was exceptional in every aspect - from the retreat leader and itinerary to the amazing accommodations, meals, scenery, and trails we ran. I thoroughly enjoyed spending time with so many women who share my passion for running. This was an all-around great experience, and I am definitely planning to join another Run Wild Retreat in the future!"
--Caroline H.

"I just got back from the most amazing running retreat! It was an incredible week filled with inspiration, new friends, and breathtaking scenery. Margaret was an absolute rockstar - kind, supportive, and so much fun to be around. Our group of women was incredibly smart and strong, and we all clicked instantly. We supported and encouraged each other every step of the way, and it was amazing to see how we all grew and improved throughout the week."

Mindful Running in the Jungle, Mountains and on the Beach

The running on this retreat is as varied and vibrant as Costa Rica itself, and that is entirely by design. Each day's route has been thoughtfully chosen to showcase a completely different face of this extraordinary country and a different dimension of what it means to run for pure joy.

  • You'll wind through the otherworldly lava fields of Arenal Volcano National Park, where howler monkeys watch from the canopy overhead and leaf-cutter ant trails cross your path.
  • You'll run to the base of La Fortuna waterfall, earning your swim in waters that have fallen 250 feet through the jungle.
  • Along the banks of the turquoise Rio Celeste, you'll follow a trail framed by one of nature's most improbable color shows -  the river's vivid blue hue a reminder that you are somewhere truly special.
  • At Rio Perdido, singletrack trails take you across suspension bridges and through volcanic canyon gorges, with a stop at a medicinal spring along the way.
  • And in Nosara, your final runs unfold along quiet backroads and wide Pacific beaches, where the only thing on the agenda is sea air, soft sand, and the satisfying rhythm of your own stride.

Professional guides lead every run, pacing is flexible, and mindful running clinics woven throughout the week give you tangible tools to carry home long after the trip is over.

It's For You if You:

  • Are comfortable running 7 miles on the road. We will spend 2-3 hours on trail each day including time for mindful running clinics, breaks for water, photos, and taking in the views.
  • Embrace a sense of adventure and enjoy trails that may include some roots, rocks, mud or uneven terrain.
  • Love trying new things and are open to learning and practicing mindful running techniques.
  • Don’t mind running at a conversational pace and stopping to enjoy the scenery.
  • Seek a meaningful balance of adventure, relaxation, and personal growth.

Your Accommodations

Three very different retreats-within-the-retreat await you along this journey.  Each one has been chosen not just for its luxury, but for the way it deepens your connection to the landscape around it.

  • Your first three nights are spent at the iconic Tabacon Thermal Resort & Spa, nestled at the base of Arenal Volcano, a place where volcanic hot springs flow naturally through lush gardens and into a series of thermal pools and rivers that you can slip into at any hour of the day or night. The resort's spa is world class, its jungle setting is stunning, and its buffet breakfast is the kind of morning ritual you'll think about for years.
  • Midway through the week, you'll cross the continental divide and arrive at Rio Perdido, a dramatic retreat carved into a river canyon, where geothermal mineral waters flow through a private river gorge and the whole property feels like a secret the world hasn't fully discovered yet.
  • Your final two nights are spent at Norte Nosara, a boutique surf retreat that perfectly captures the free-spirited, health-conscious energy of Nosara town: yoga classes daily, direct beach access, and that intangible feeling that you have found exactly where you are supposed to be.

Together, these three properties offer an arc from volcanic jungle luxury to hidden canyon sanctuary to Pacific coast freedom - a journey that mirrors the one happening inside you.

Time to Simply Be

For many women, the most radical thing about this retreat isn't the running. It's the permission to rest. Built into every single day is meaningful free time: unhurried afternoons to float in thermal rivers, browse a spa menu, stroll into town for a coffee, journal on your balcony, or simply lie in a hammock watching the jungle breathe.

There is no overscheduling here. Each day has a beginning and an end, and what happens in between is yours to shape. You might book a massage at Tabacon's legendary spa. You might spend an extra hour in Rio Perdido's mineral river, feeling the warm volcanic water work its way into muscles you forgot you had. You might take a solo walk along Playa Nosara just before sunset, or find a quiet corner at Norte to read the book you've been carrying since January.

This is your time held within a structure that makes everything possible, but insists on nothing.

Come as you are, leave changed

You don't need to be the fastest runner in the room. You don't need to have traveled solo before. You don't need to have it all figured out. What you need is a sense of adventure, and the quiet conviction that you deserve a week that is entirely, unapologetically yours.

This retreat exists for the woman who has spent years showing up for everyone else, and is finally ready to show up for herself. It exists for the runner who wants more than miles, who wants meaning, connection, and the particular magic that comes from moving your body through wild places with people who get it.

If any part of this is speaking to you, we'd love to have you with us. We'll save you a spot on the trail.
