Testimonials

"I had so much fun on this retreat! I learned so much about mindful running and our retreat leader was so much fun to hang out with. I also loved our local guides Milan and Greg. They were invaluable, so knowledgeable and supportive. Another highlight was the Adventure Dinner--that was a special experience I will never forget!

"
I would highly recommend attending a Run Wild Retreat. The Run Wild team is great and care about every detail of your experience. The running, the venue, the food, the workshops... everything was perfectly executed. All the logistics aside, the community of like minded women is a priceless network to be a part of!"

It's for you if:

This retreat is level I. This means it's for you if you:

  • You can run at least 3 to 4 miles at a time on the road
  • If you use a run-walk method of pacing or consider yourself a "slow" runner
  • May or may not have run trails before but are curious about trying
  • You are comfortable being on your feet for up to 3 hours at time
  • Are game for running in the rain, as it rains a lot in Vermont this time of year!
  • Are curious about learning trail running (and don't mind muddy shoes!)
  • Good balance is recommended, as the fallen leaves can make the trails a bit slippery

A little bit about how we pace the runs:

  • We have either one or two guides (depending on the group size) to support the different pace groups, so there’s no pressure to run fast
  • The trails we run are a mix of dirt roads, double track roads and singletrack trails also used by bikers and cross-country skiers
  • Trail running experience isn’t necessary. Your retreat leader provides trail-running tips for running in this terrain.
  • You’ll encounter trails with loose rocks, rooty terrain on these trails. You can walk/hike trail sections as you need.

3 Nights at the Essex Culinary Resort + Spa

Nestled on 18 acres between the vistas of the Green Mountains and the splendor of Lake Champlain, The Essex is a true destination for relaxation, offering a full-service spa, hands-on culinary experiences at the Cook Academy classes, and two fine restaurants--all of which perfectly complement their classic accommodations. Enjoy staying in the culinary-themed guest rooms, featuring décor inspired by the colors and textures of food and Vermont’s natural beauty.

Introduction to Mindful Running

Learn how to run more mindfully. This includes natural running form clinics during which you'll learn about the Power Posture: use proper alignment to make gravity do more of the work. This reduces the muscular force involved with running so it feels easier and less strenuous on muscles and joints. You'll also practice using natural running techniques to drastically improve efficiency. You'll practice changing stride length, cadence and tempo on various types of terrain. Then put the pieces together to achieve the ultimate trail running experience. Learn to cultivate the circumstances for flow to occur by being relaxed and mindful.

All the runs at this retreat (which are between three and six miles) employ a run-walk approach, so no matter your pace you’ll be able to go at a pace that’s comfortable for you. With the support of our professional running guides, you can relax and enjoy the running without having to navigate or worry about logistics.

Travel Mindfully to Truly Unwind

This retreat can be the kind of vacation that truly transforms your state of mind and body, if you're open to it. Our retreats are designed to support you as a whole woman, not just a runner. That means you can expect free time to yourself, away from the group. It means that there are wellness experiences included in your retreat package to support your nervous system reset. This is your chance to heal from the effects of stress and focus on doing the things that energize you, inspire you and feed your soul.

Rejuvenate at the Essex Spa

Your retreat package includes access to the spa amenities (open Thursday through Sunday, 8 am to 8 pm). Their special ingredients for a memorable spa visit include a tranquil setting surrounded by warm wood and natural stone, rich traditional Vermont hospitality and, above all, the expertise of our extraordinary spa staff. Amenities include a fitness center, indoor pool, hot tub, relaxation lounges and more. You will have time on Friday from 2:30 to 5:00 p.m. and again on Saturday from 3:00 to 5:30 pm. for spa treatments. We do not recommend booking treatments for any other time during your visit, as you will be busy with your retreat itinerary. You may book a spa treatment directly with the resort for an additional fee. Click here to see the spa menu.

Cooking Class + Farm-to-Table Meals

Experience exceptional dining! Most meals are included in your retreat package, and we handpick high-quality, farm-to-table style dining for unforgettable culinary experiences. The Essex is known as one of New England’s premier culinary resorts. At our group’s personalized garden tour and private cooking class, you’ll learn the secrets to making mouthwatering meals out of fresh ingredients. This hands-on immersive experience will give you new kitchen skills and inspiration for whipping up healthy meals for you and your family at home. Gain a deeper appreciation for working with ingredients that may be new to you, and have fun in the process!
